Defying market uncertainty, still thriving

In a time of national uncertainty, we are delighted to be thriving in an increasingly unstable market.

Senior managers here at Schofield Sweeney are feeling justifiably proud following a period of stability and growth, hallmarked by several award nominations.

As one of West Yorkshire’s largest and most prominent law firms, we attribute part of our recent success to winning new business from banks and other lenders.

One of the people responsible is solicitor and partner Manjit Virdee, who leads our Real Estate Finance and Banking team, which is formed out of the Commercial Property team.

Manjit joined Schofield Sweeney in 2006, and became a partner of the prestigious firm in 2017.

Mr Virdee said: “I was incredibly proud to be named a partner at Schofield Sweeney, because it really is one of the region’s leading law firms, which is different to our direct competitors."

The father-of-two is also currently serving in his second year as the president of the Bradford Law Society, and divides his time between working in the firm’s Bradford and Leeds offices.

He enjoys spending time with his beloved wife and sons, following Formula One, and cheering for Leeds United.

He said: “We’re the type of law firm that welcomes conversation with all clients – we want to understand their needs in detail, so we can give pragmatic, informed advise, and hold their hand through legal matters as much as they require.”

“The most satisfying parts of this job are winning new business; retaining and keeping existing clients happy; giving good advice, whether it be on structure, securitisation, or any property aspect; and when we successfully get matters  completed and over the line, and we’re left with a happy and satisfied client.

“Recent bank panel wins have required us to go out to the market and employ good quality solicitors to retain the high level of service and advice that the team and I provide.”

The firm’s success has also been recognised within the legal industry. It was recently a finalist in the Yorkshire Legal Awards, and Mr Virdee has twice been personally named in the Legal 500 guide, first as a ‘Rising Star’, and again this year as a ‘Next Generation Partner’.

He added: “In 2018 we celebrated one of  the most successful years in the history of the firm, and projections for the current year also look very positive.

“Despite the current uncertainty in the market, the future is looking very bright for Schofield Sweeney, and for the people and businesses we’re fortunate enough to represent.”
