A further extension of the rules governing entitlement to SSP has come into force today, in line with the Government’s new ‘track and trace’ scheme.
From today, any individual who is informed that they need to self-isolate for 14 days as a result of their having been in ‘close contact’ with a confirmed case of Coronavirus will be entitled to SSP for the duration of that isolation.
This is in line with the SSP reimbursement scheme which commenced on Tuesday 26 May, allowing employers to reclaim up to two weeks’ SSP in certain circumstances if:
• an employee is off work as they are shielding, have coronavirus or are self-isolating (either because someone they live with has symptoms or they have been notified of a need to self-isolate under the Track and Trace scheme);
• the employee was on payroll as at 28 February 2020; and
• the employer has fewer than 250 employees.
