Education Forum: Finances for Schools

27th June 2018

At our next Education Forum for schools and multi academy trusts (MATs) on 27th June 2018, our specialist team will provide help and guidance relating to the finances of running a successful school and MAT and the due diligence that should be taken in order to improve financial planning for the future. Please note that this education forum is a longer session than normal as we have invited a couple of guest speakers.

We have the following speakers and topics during the session:

1. Helen Hirst - Education Specialist

Helen has a number of years’ experience within the Education sector and providing guidance particularly to schools converting as part of or transferring to a MAT. This session will provide detailed tips on how to grow your MAT including conversions, transfers and points to consider as part of due diligence.

2. Simon Shepherd - Employment Specialist

With the recent financial pressures which are impacting schools and MATs; Simon will guide you through the process of redundancies and restructures and how best to undertake these. He can also provide your education establishment with details of our Just Teach programme which may be beneficial and provide further assistance with managing your finances.

3. Jonathan Jones - MAC Construction Consultants

MAC Construction Consultants have recently worked with a number of Academies and MATs in relation to their property matters. There are risks during the transfer in terms of unexpected financial costs with the buildings they have now taken over. They advise schools on budgeting for property maintenance and undertaking due diligence in respect of schools transferring to MATs. They will also cover Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) applications what academies can apply for in order to carry out maintenance work on their buildings.

4. Kim Whitley - Lloyds Banking Group

Kim will focus on protecting funds for schools and advise on the concerns over fraudulent activity. She will also be able to offer advice and support to help you know what to look out for and how to prevent becoming a victim of fraudulent activity.

This is your opportunity to connect and build networks with other schools, MATs and academies, share best practice, and discuss any concerns you have. Our specialist Education Team will also be available to advise on the relevant law and explore a range of issues. If there are any particular topics you would like to hear about then please do let us know.

The Education Forum is primarily aimed at members of the senior leadership team and business managers. There will be a variety of topics covered so it may also be appropriate for HR managers or other colleagues to attend. If governors are able to attend they would also be very welcome.

A light breakfast will be provided. We will also spend some time networking informally and give you the opportunity to input into the format of future events.

Please note that places are limited to a maximum of two per school or MAT.

Please email to book your place
