Otley Sailing Club’s dream of ‘Sailing for ALL’ now a reality
The Otley Sailing Club has finally received charitable status thanks to the hard work and dedication of Caroline Thompson-Hayes.
Schofield Sweeney provided free legal advice to the Otley Sailing Club, helping them to achieve their goal of becoming a registered Charity.
The club was formed in 1958 and is located at Weston Water, Otley. In 2014 a limited company was formed; a step which was necessary prior to the application for charitable status from the Charity Commission.
The process took almost a year but becoming a Charity will enable the club to offer their facilities to the wider community and open up funding opportunities which they otherwise would not have had access to. The Hollybank Trust is one of many organisations to use the club; public donations and funding will enable further development of the club and improvement of their existing disabled facilities. The overall aim being to make the club as inclusive as possible.
“With the charitable status I hope lots of doors will now start to be unlocked, Otley Sailing Club can progress and make the dream of truly Sailing for ALL a reality.” Says Paul Karran, Commodore, Otley Sailing Club.
